About Me
Welcome to Fossils Franconia! My name is Stephan and since my early childhood I felt into love with fossils! I was fascinated by the beauty and diversity of specimen the nature has created and about the creatures once ruled the surface of the earth and got preserved over time. Because collecting and later preparing fossils has become a central part of my life over the years I deceided now to share some of my finds and experience with you and to give something back to the world.
In the gallery you will a part of my collection and some of my special finds. Under preparation I give a some insights into the fossil preparation and the techniques and tools I use to reveal the fossils from the surrounding rock. Here are some pictures of my fossil collection. All finds were made by myself and most of them in the beautiful Franconian Switzerland.

Leider ist es mir nicht möglich (schon allein aus Platzgründen) alle Fossilien zu behalten und in meiner eigenen Sammlung auszustellen, auch wenn sie noch so schön sind. Das ist auch gar nicht notwendig. Viel lieber ist es mir, wenn sich jemand an den Funden erfreut und vielleicht nicht selst die Möglichkeit hat an einem bestimmten Fundort zu suchen. Daher biete ich immer wieder Fossilien zu einem, wie ich denke, fairen Preis zum Verkauf an. Die meisten Fossilien habe ich, wenn nicht anders angegeben, selbst präpariert. Ergänzungen oder Montagen versuche ich weitestgehend zu vermeiden. Sollte ich aus ästetischen Gründen doch einmal eine Ergänzug vorgenommen haben, so ist dies entsprechend vermerkt. Unfortunately, it is not possible for me to keep all the fossils and display them in my own collection (for reasons of space alone), however beautiful they may be. That's not even necessary. I much prefer it when someone enjoys the finds and perhaps doesn't have the opportunity to search at a particular location. Therefore I always offer fossils for sale at what I think is a fair price. Unless otherwise stated, I have prepared most of the fossils myself. I try to avoid additions or mountings as far as possible. Should I have made an addition for aesthetic reasons, this is noted accordingly. Workshop
Welcome to my workshop! Finding fossils is the most fun part for many collectors, but also the process of preparation can be very exciting as you never know what exactly the hidden structures of the fossil unter the rock will look like unless you have prepared the whole specimen. For me it is both exciting and challenging to reveal the full beauty of the fossils from the rock and on the other hand get the best result for the customer. For a professional preparation a whole bunch of tools are required and used such as air abrasives, air scribes (HW-322, HW-70, HW-65, HW-90), stone cutting saw, and grinding & polishing machines to get the best results out of the stone.
With precision and care, we utilize these state-of-the-art instruments to delicately remove layers of sediment and unveil the maximum details of each fossil. Whether it's the precision of an Air Scribe or the finesse of a Grinding & Polishing Machine, our dedication to excellence ensures that every fossil undergoes a transformative journey from discovery to display.

Air Abrasive
Very good preparation results are achieved on fossils with a shell preservation using air abrasives and different abrasive powders (e.g. dolomite, iron powder. aluminium oxide).
Air Scribes
Air scribes in various strengths and different chisels, depending on the hardness and quantity of the surrounding rock, are used to expose the fossil.
Sandblasting Cabins
Sandblasting cabins are required to protect myself from flying particles and fine dust in order to avoid injuries and to prevent breathing in harmful finest dust, especially during sandblasting activity.
Stone Cutting Saw
To format bigger blocks I use stone cutting saws with diamond blades in my workshop. Usually to format bigger rocks quickly or to cut fossils into half before polishing them.
Grinding Machine
To grind and polish fossils or minerals I use a plane grinding machine to achieve optimum results for a plane mirror like surface.
Grinding pads and polish paste.
For grinding and polishing, different flat grinding pads in different grains from 100 to 10.000 are used for polishing and diamond powder for the finish and optimal shine.
